Are there any Fred Lowry roper saddles for sale?
I'm looking to find a price for 2 Fred Lowry roping saddles in excellent and good condition. They both were made at the Veach Saddlery located in Trenton, Missouri. They have been kept inside and used for riding only. One has a date of 1964 stamped on the back and the other has no date. The name Fred Lowry is carved under the finder and have the Fred Lowry stamp on the seat and on the keeper. Both have floral carving all over them, round skirting and flat dee rings. Can anyone help me. Thanks
By far the most collectible Monroe Veach saddles are the Fred Lowry ropers as it was very popular saddle throughout the 40's, 50's and even into the 60's. One of those in good original condition can command a pretty high price. Also popular with collectors are their trick riding saddles, another style they were/are well-known for.
Your saddle really isn't that old in terms of vintage/antique saddles. The best sellers in that category are by far the Hopes, Wades, Old-Timers and A forks, but they sound nice nonetheless.
If you were to put it up for sale (if in good condition) a reasonable price would probably be in the $1,000 range. The right person might pay more but you'd have to advertise it properly to get it noticed.
