Is there something to put on my metal beads to keep them from turning?
I'm talking about the metal beads you use to make jewelry (silvertone, goldtone). Not talking about sterling silver. After a while, the beads turn to a darker color. Is there a product to brush on them maybe? Other than keeping them sealed up, is there another method?
There used to be a product manufactured by Delta Technical Coatings called Jewelry Glaze, but it’s no longer being made. What is still available is a product from Decoart Americana called Triple Thick gloss glaze. It comes in a spray and a liquid.
It’s great stuff if you want a highly sealed and high gloss finish on almost anything--it works on metal, wood, wicker, china, bisque, plaster, paper mache and more. I love the stuff--you can paint with acrylics on a super shiny surface and apply this glass and it makes your paint look like it was fired on.
I’m sure it will work to seal your metal beads and keep them from oxidizing. It will add shine, however, so if you are wanting a more matte look this might not be the product to use.
