_The Village Voice_’s latest journalistic campaign has an unlikely target in
its crosshairs: _The New York Times_ columnist **Nicholas Kristof**.
Casual readers might think the alt-weekly champion of New York’s little guys
and _The Times_’ in-house humanitarian would be bound by ideology. But as a
result of two articles Mr. Kristof wrote this year about _Voice_ sister
company Backpage.com, he has become the subject of what he calls a
“disingenuous” attack published on the _The Village Voice_ website.
In a pair of columns, Mr. Kristof criticized the online classifieds site for
maintaining an adult services section, which—like Craigslist’s before
it—serves as a virtual agora for prostitutes and their handlers. The more
recent piece, published March 17, included a first-person account from
“Alissa,” who was sold into sex on Backpage.com starting at age 16.
“Nicholas D. Kristof was wrong about the most devastating 'fact' in his
Sunday, March 18th, column in _The New York Times_," the _Village Voice_ wrote
four days later. “According to Alissa's court testimony, she was 16 in 2003.
Backpage.com did not exist anywhere in America in 2003.”

Bought plastic instead of amber, shop owner denies it?
I went to an independently owned bead shop to buy REAL amber beads. The woman told me what she was selling me WAS real. Later I did a few at-home tests to discover that they were plastic. The woman denies it and refuses to let me return them. Is there anything I can do? Since she is the owner of the shop there is no one above her to complain to. HELP!
What did you pay for them? Im sure there is a cost difference between real amber and plastic. So did you pay the price for real amber? If you did and this lady won't refund your money, is it worth it to take her to court? Or the other more realistic option is to notify the BBB and find every avenue you can to let this lady know how displeased you are, if her business has facebook or myspace, leave a comment about the circumstances, make a youtube video, make the title the name of the store so that when people search the internet, they will find your reviews. You probably wont get your money back, but you'll give that beady eyed bitch a lesson technology.
