Rhodium plating reacting badly to body chemistry?
I have gotten a few sterling silver rings that were plated with Rhodium and within a week or two the inside of the band will darken, and lose all shine and smoothness. Eventually this effect will spread to the rest of the ring, starting with whatever parts are in direct contact with my skin the most. Eventually because of the look and change in texture of the metal the ring is not even comfortable to wear and is pretty much ruined. I have gotten these rings from various sources, the last three have been from TJ Maxx and they are very good about taking them back. Has anyone had this happen to them, or is my body chemistry that corrosive? Is there anything I can do to prevent this? Also is there anyway to tell if a ring is plated before I buy it? Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.
